Message : thanx harry. also, im pretty sure the ticking is coming from the passenger side towards the rear of the car. its loudest when i put my ear right over the furhtest back passenger side tube of the intake manifold.. if my balance tube o rings are shot, shouldnt there be some fluid or sonething around the flanges? im just thinkin that if thers no leak, then theres no problem.. or maybe thats totally wrong.. thanx alot for all the help, and by the way, my engine is totally spotless!! looks great!! youve inspired me!! :-)

Yep, that's most likely the balance tube o-ring gone bad. But to answer your question about oil, the answer is generally no. The intake plenum is an air passage and what happens when you have bad o-rings is that air leaks out between the plenum and the balance tube which in turns robs air going to the back cylinder. This causes the ticking. Oil rarely seeps out as it's a deep plenum, you'd have to have some really bad PCV valves for oil to be spewing out of there (even so, the chances of oil seeping out is next to nothing).

I would go ahead and change out all the o-rings under the balance tube on both sides of the engine. If one side is gone, the other side isn't far behind. It's an easy DIY project so you shouldn't run into any problems doing it yourself.

As for your engine being spotless.... I'll be the judge of that... LOL
